New leadership at the helm of the IASL

Stefan-Michael Wedenig, LLM’21, was named executive director of the IASL and its Centre for Research in Air and Space Law.

Marie Manikis wins Canadian Association of Law Teachers award

François Crépeau appointed to the Ordre national du Québec
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor François Crépeau, O.C., O.Q., F.R.S.C., Ad. E., has been appointed officer of the Ordre national du Québec. He will be handed his medal by Premier François Legault during a ceremony at the National Assembly on 22 June.

LGBT Purge Fund establishes initiatives at Law to promote 2SLGBTQ+ justice
The Faculty of Law and the LGBT Purge Fund are pleased to announce the creation of an experiential learning award and a research fellowship for law students. Supported by a $250,000 grant from the LGBT Purge Fund, both initiatives will promote student engagement towards 2SLGBTQ+ justice.

Johanne Poirier receives 2022 Durnford Teaching Prize
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Johanne Poirier has received the 2022 John W. Durnford Award for Teaching Excellence. Named in honour of the late professor and former dean John W. Durnford (BCL'52), and conferred by students, this award each year recognizes a law professor’s exceptional pedagogy. Professor Poirier received the award during the Law Convocation ceremony on 26 May 2022 for the second time, having won it in 2019.

James (Sa’Ke’j) Youngblood Henderson, F.R.S.C., to receive honorary doctorate at Law Convocation
On 26 May, James (Sa’ke’j) Youngblood Henderson, F.R.S.C., will receive a Doctor of Laws (LLD), honoris causa, from , and give the commencement address at the 2022 Law Spring convocation ceremony.

Tina Piper and Darren Rosenblum appointed Associate Deans
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Tina Piper has been appointed associate dean (academic) and that Professor Darren Rosenblum has been appointed associate dean (graduate studies).
They will begin two-year terms on 1 September 2022 and 1 August 2022, respectively. They are replacing Professor Rosalie Jukier and Professor Andrea Bjorklund, who will have completed three years in these roles.
