Calls for papers: 2nd Manfred Lachs International Conference on Global Space Governance - 29-31 May 2014
The Committee is inviting submission of papers that, among other things, will discuss and critically analyze the current socio-political, strategic and legal challenges to the achievement of good global space governance and, as well, propose viable policy options and regulatory mechanisms that will help ensure that present generations of humanity can continue their exploration and use of outer space without seriously compromising the possibility for future generations to do the same.
Commemorating Alex Konigsberg
On October 29, 2013, the Faculty of Law held a reception in the Common Room to honour the memory of Alex Konigsberg QC, BCL’63, and to also mark the launch of the Alex Konigsberg Management & Law Bursary.
The Faculty of Law was privileged to welcome Mr. Konigsberg’s widow, Vivian Konigsberg, and many members of his family. Several of his friends, colleagues and former º«¹úÂãÎè Law classmates also attended.

Focus online: "There’s a place for us"
The October 2013 edition of Focus online takes a look at the Faculty of Law’s 5th annual DCL retreat that took place this September, to discuss ‘Finding Our Place in Academic Life.’
The event, which was coorganized by doctoral candidates Jodi Lazare and Geoffrey Conrad, drew over 30 students for a full day of rewarding and insightful discussion.

Six projects at the Faculty of Law receive SSHRC funding
The Faculty’s Office of Research is happy to announce that six exciting projects have been awarded funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

º«¹úÂãÎè MBA student team wins 2013 Hult Prize Competition
A team of five º«¹úÂãÎè students won the 2013 Hult Prize, valued at $1 million for their social enterprise project to secure food for undernourished communities in urban slums. Among them is Shobhita Soor, a Law/MBA student.

Yaw Nyampong named Executive Director of Centre for Research in Air & Space Law
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Dr. Yaw Nyampong has been named Executive Director of the Centre for Research in Air & Space Law.
Yaw Nyampong (LLM’05, DCL’11) is also a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana, Legon. He held an Arsenault Postdoctoral Fellowship at º«¹úÂãÎè's Institute of Air & Space Law in 2011-2012, and a Boulton Fellowship at the Faculty of Law in 2012-2013.

The Worlds of the Trust: newest publication from the Paul-André Crépeau Centre
We are happy to announce that the latest publication from the Crépeau Centre is The Worlds of the Trust (Cambridge University Press, 2013), which was edited by Professor Lionel Smith.
This collection of 22 essays makes a significant contribution to the comparative study of trusts. It includes contributions from Canada, the U.S., England, France, Scotland, South Africa, Israel and China.

Vanessa Arviset takes over as Crépeau Centre’s new assistant director

On August 20, 2013, Fred Headon (BCL’96, LLB’96) took over the helm as President of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) during the closing luncheon of the CBA's annual Legal Conference in Saskatoon.

Hat Trick For Daniel Boyer
The Faculty of Law was delighted to learn that our colleague Daniel Boyer (BA’79, MLIS’88), Head Librarian of the Nahum Gelber Law Library, was named Associate Dean of User Services of the º«¹úÂãÎè Library for a two-year mandate.
As well, Me Boyer has also been named to the board of directors of the Société québécoise d'information juridique (SOQUIJ) for a period of five years, following the recommendation of the Deans of law faculties across Quebec.

Daniel Weinstock to direct º«¹úÂãÎè’s Institute for Health and Social Policy
The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Daniel Weinstock to the position of Director of the º«¹úÂãÎè Institute for Health and Social Policy, an interdisciplinary institute housed within the Faculty of Medicine at º«¹úÂãÎè, starting August 1.

On June 27, 2013, the Quebec Bar announced the recipients of the Advocatus Emeritus title for 2013.

BLG makes generous donation to Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private & Comparative Law
John G. Murphy, managing partner at Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG), is extremely proud of the efforts made by a team headed by H. John Godber (BCL'88, LLB'88) and Neil Hazan (BCL/LLB'02) to support º«¹úÂãÎè Faculty of Law’s Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law. The fundraising activity, which brought in $400,000 from BLG’s lawyers and partners across Canada, ended this month.
