Robert Hasegawa receives a Society for Music Theory award
Robert Hasegawa, Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Area Chair for Music Theory at the Schulich School of Music, has received the 'Emerging Scholar Award' at the 2016 Society for Music Theory conference held in Vancouver. His article “Clashing Harmonic Systems in Haas’s Blumenstück and in vain” was published in the journal Music Theory Spectrum 37/2 (Fall 2015).

Mezzo-soprano Simone McIntosh winner of COC Centre Stage Competition
Vancouver-born mezzo-soprano Simone McIntosh, a Master's student of Professor Dominique Labelle at the Schulich School of Music of was named the winner of the COC Centre Stage Competition on Thursday, November 3rd. The announcement was made at the gala evening event held in Toronto and the prize is sponsored by Board Chair Colleen Sexsmith.

Joshua Morris winner of the 2016-2017 Golden Violin Competition
Cellist Joshua Morris was named the winner of the 2016-2017 Golden Violin Competition held Sunday, October 30th in Pollack Hall. Morris, accompanied by Karsiri Laothamatas, performed Kaddish, from 2 Mélodies hébraïques by Maurice Ravel, a work composed by Morris himself, Suite for Solo Cello, and the Prokofiev Sonata for cello and piano in C major, Op. 119.

Conductor Jordan de Souza named Kapellmeister at the Komische Oper Berlin
Jordan de Souza, BMus'09, MMus'11 will become the Kapellmeister of the Komische Oper Berlin beginning with the start of their 2017/18 season. In his first season as Kapellmeister, he will conduct several repertoire pieces, direct one new production and lead an orchestra concert.
