Soprano Dominque Labelle honoured by Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra

Professor Dominique Labelle was honoured at the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra  (PBO) and Chorale's annual Winter Gala, held on March 10, 2017.  At the Gala, Labelle premiered a newly commissioned piece which was written for her by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Caroline Shaw.

Noted Pianist David Dolan in Residence April 2-6, 2017

Professor David Dolan, a  2016-2017 Catherine Thornhill-Steele Visiting Artist, will lead workshops for Schulich School of Music students and will also give a public lecture, sponsored jointly by the Department of Research and CIRMMT.

Radio-France presents a candid conversation with composition professor Denys Bouliane

Schulich composition professor Denys Bouliane was the featured artist on March 20th in a Radio-France program devoted to his work.  The conversation with animator Bruno Letort can be heard in its entirety and features large excerpts of his seminal works.

Schulich graduate students excel at Society for American Music conference

A record number of Schulich School of Music graduate students presented papers and participated in the 43rd Annual Society for American Music (SAM) Annual Conference, which was hosted by ş«ąúÂăÎč and held in Montreal from March 22-26.  The Society for American Music is made up of scholars, performers, and students dedicated to the study, teaching, and creation of the musics of the Americas.

Audible Reality a Dobson Cup Finalist

Two Schulich PhD students, Bryan Martin and Mathew Boerum, have had their company's project advance to the final round of the ş«ąúÂăÎč Dobson Cup.  Audible Reality develops revolutionary 3D audio imaging which captures and delivers fully-immersive, life-like sound from any source.

Pianist Zhenni Li wins New York Concert Artists and Associates Competition

On March 11, 2017, Schulich doctoral piano student Zhenni Li, a student of Prof. Stéphane Lemelin,  was named winner of the New York Concert Artists and Associates Worldwide Debut Audition.  Selected as one of three finalists, out of 165 who applied, Zhenni Li performed the Rachmaninov 3rd Piano Concerto in D minor, Op. 30 with the New York Concert Artists Symphony Orchestra,  led by conductor Eduard Zilberkant.

Brian Cherney: Highlights in Canadian Music

It speaks volumes that Prof. Brian Cherney’s Canadian Music Concert series grew out of a desire to share our nation’s great works with his students. While teaching his course on Canadian Music at Schulich, he came up with an idea to make the compositions in the curriculum more accessible to the class — and this has since become a well-loved yearly tradition.

Le concert d'Alexei Lubimov, 72 ans, était présenté dans une série «Schulich en concert» dans le cadre de Montréal en lumière.

Le voilà, le concert, qui m’a « purgé » de l’état d’hébétude dans lequel m’avait entraîné le récital d’András Schiff, vendredi dernier. C’est dire qu’il a surpassé de très loin le récital de la veille, du réputé Yefim Bronfman.

Patrick Hansen: From Game of Thrones to Schulich’s Opera Marathon

In just a few short days, Montreal opera fans are going to get everything they could ever wish for. As part of Montréal en Lumière, Schulich’s Lisl Wirth Black Box Festival  is set to present the Opera Binge Festival, which will cram a total of seven operas into the space of 24 hours.

Harpist Antoine Malette-ChĂ©nier wins ş«ąúÂăÎč Concerto Competition

Harpist Antoine Malette-ChĂ©nier, a Doctor of Musical Arts student of Jennifer Swartz, has won the ş«ąúÂăÎč Concerto Competition.  In the final round, which took place on Tuesday, February 21, Antoine gave a stunning performance of Canadian Composer R. Murray Schafer's Concerto for Harp and Orchestra.   He will perform with the ş«ąúÂăÎč Symphony Orchestra during their 2017-18 season.

Schulich Students excel at the Concours d'Art lyrique de la Relève Musicale

 The  Concours d'Art lyrique de la Relève Musicale was held on February 17, 18 and 19 in Québec City.   Three current students were awarded prizes:  tenor Jeremy Scinocca, BMus'19 received 1st Prize, tenor Graeme Linton, B.Mus'19 and bass-baritone Reed Copeland, BMus'17 each received 3rd Prize.
