Professor Vrinda Narain is the recipient of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice’s 2017 Charles D. Gonthier Research Fellowship. She will present results of her research project entitled “Difference and Inclusion: Reframing Multiculturalism and Reasonable Accommodation” at CIAJ’s Annual Conference on diversity this fall.

The Faculty of Law is proud to announce that Frédéric Bachand, Ad. E., has been appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec, district of Montreal. He replaces Madam Justice S. DeVito, who elected supernumerary status effective December 6, 2016.

The Faculty is pleased to announce that Professor Evan Fox-Decent has been promoted to the rank of Full Professor, effective May 1, 2017.
In sharing the news, Dean Robert Leckey underscored how this promotion “recognizes [Evan’s] international stature as a scholar whose work crosses disciplinary lines and occupies a major place in current debates,” adding that “whether or not scholars agree with him, they must engage with his work.”

On Thursday, June 1, during the Faculty of Law’s Spring 2017 Convocation Ceremony, Professor Stephen J. Toope, O.C., BCL’83, LLB’83, will be awarded a Doctor of Laws degree, honoris causa, and will give the commencement address.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce the appointment of Cristina Toteda as Faculty Lecturer in Legal Ethics, starting May 1, 2017. Me Toteda will work closely with Faculty members and engaged alumni to revise the mandatory second-year course in Legal Ethics and Professionalism and the upper-year course in Advocacy. She will teach those courses and also work with the first-year Integration Workshop course

Professor Daniel Weinstock was awarded the Charles Taylor Prize for Excellence in Policy Research at the Broadbent Institute’s Progress Summit 2017, which took place in Ottawa April 5-7.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Omar Farahat as Assistant Professor.
Dr. Farahat completed his Ph.D. at Columbia University in 2016, after which he worked as a Research Fellow at Yale Law School. Prior to that, he obtained a dual law degree from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Cairo University in 2004, an LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 2007, and an interdisciplinary M.A. in the humanities from New York University in 2010. He has practiced law in Cairo, New York, and Paris.

Brian Havel is a Distinguished Research Professor of Law at DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, where he currently directs the International & Comparative Law Program and the International Aviation Law Institute.

Blackett’s work, which addresses labour regulation in an era of neoliberal global governance, explores the intimate relationship between social and economic policy.
