º«¹úÂãÎè-managed desktop and laptop Windows computers will receive an important security update beginning on October 31, 2022. Cisco Secure Endpoint, º«¹úÂãÎè’s antivirus software, will receive its regularly scheduled, monthly update. The process to update all affected machines will take approximately 2 weeks.

As of June Wednesday, June 15, 2022Ìýº«¹úÂãÎè's Facilities and Space Maintenance System, FAMIS will only be accessible through a remote connection to a secure "containment" environment. This is necessary because FAMIS only runs in Internet Explorer, which is no longer supported by Microsoft.

º«¹úÂãÎè’s Student Directory, where students can choose to share their contact information with their fellow students or the community at large, will be decommissioned as of May 30, 2022. If you are a student whose information is listed in the directory, no action is required on your part.

The option to add or remove your name and contact information from the Student Directory has been removed from Minerva. If you are listed in the Student Directory and wish to remove your contact information before May 30, please contact the IT Service Desk.

Update (March 30, 2022)

The wired network outage at 5100 de Maisonneuve reported last week is ongoing. We have learned that the issueÌý was caused by a fire in the manhole, which damaged the fiber cable. Emergency teams from the City of Montreal are on site and we hope to be able to resolve the issue by early next week once their work is complete. Check back here for status updates.

Research and Innovation and IT Services are pleased to welcome Marc Rousseau to the role of Director, Research Software / Directeur du Logiciel de Recherche. In this new role, Rousseau provides support and advice to the º«¹úÂãÎè research community on software, from grant applications to the implementation of research activities. He will also lead the development of the º«¹úÂãÎè Digital Research Services team, which will assist researchers in all fields of study with resources and tools in research data management (RDM), research software (RS) and advanced research computing (ARC).

A new role,ÌýSite Administrator,Ìýhas been added to the º«¹úÂãÎè Web Management System (WMS).

What is it?

The Site Administrator serves as the primary contact and oversees the quality and overall objectives of their site. Replacing the now defunct designation of Primary Site Manager, this new role has been created to help ensure quality and reduce complexity for Site Managers and other contributors.

The Web Service Group is working to make it easier for visitors to find and view events on WMS sites, similar to what is onÌýwww.mcgill.ca/music/events.

As a result,ÌýChannels Event SearchÌýwill soon be made available to all WMS sites.

What is it?

Channels Event Search makes it possible to display, search, and filter local channels event content on any site where it is enabled.

As of Monday, February 16, 2015, access to º«¹úÂãÎè Library e-resources from off campus will end for all ineligible º«¹úÂãÎè affiliates. The Library's license agreements for electronic resources generally only cover off-campus access for current º«¹úÂãÎè students, faculty and staff.

In July 2013, in an effort to comply with licensing agreements for electronic content, the º«¹úÂãÎè Library began a process of analyzing º«¹úÂãÎè user and affiliated accounts to ensure that only eligible users were able to access the Library’s e-resources. This work has now been completed.

Starting today, August 19, º«¹úÂãÎè students have free access to the latest version of Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Office apps. You may download and install it on up to five compatible personal devices, including PCs, Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Android smartphones and tablets.

As long as you're a student at º«¹úÂãÎè, you'll be able to continue to use Office 365 ProPlus at no charge, and will receive automatic software updates.
