Our project explores the lived experiences of immigrant older adults. It studies the impact of immigration on aging within the context ofÌýlife history narratives and photos. We interviewed 19 older adult immigrants who were born inÌývarious countries around the world andÌýwho are currently living in British Columbia and Quebec, about their life histories and experiences of aging.ÌýAll of our participants took pictures of their daily lives to showcase their experiences and what is meaningful to them. Themes included housing and transportation, precarious employment, the impact of past trauma, family and care, community engagement and resilience. A "photovoice" exhibit showcasing the stories and photos of our participants was held simultaneously in Montreal and VancouverÌýon May 11 & 12, 2017 and was a resounding success with over 100 people attending in each location! In 2018-2020, we organized 10 outreach forums in Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary and Vancouver which brought together key stakeholders including those from seniors’ organizations, immigrant-serving organizations, service provider agencies, public sector health services and government decision-makers to develop recommendations and new partnerships in order to promote intersectoral exchange and improve services and supports to older adult immigrants, their families and communities. Notre projet a pour objectif d’explorer les expériences vécues par des immigrants âgés, et d’étudier l’impact du processus migratoire sur le vieillissement à travers des photos et des histoires de vie qui nous ont été racontés. Nous avons interviewé 19 personnes âgées immigrantes, originaires de différents pays autours du monde et vivant présentement en Colombie-Britannique ou au Québec au sujet de leur parcours de vie et de leurs expériences liées au vieillissement. Les thèmes principaux étaient : le logement et le transport ; la précarité d’emploi ; l’impact des traumatismes du passé ; la famille et le soutien ; et l’engagement communautaire et la résilience. Une exposition « photovoice » qui présentait les histoires et les photos des participants a eu lieu simultanément à Montréal et Vancouver les 11 et 12 mai 2017. Plus de 100 personnes dans chaque ville ont assistés à l’exposition qui a été un grand succès !

Nous sommes heureux de vous présenter un catalogue en ligne des photos et des histoires qui ont été présenté lors de l’exposition du projet « Les expériences de personnes âgées immigrantes ; une étude narrative – photovoix » les 11 et 12 mai 2017. Les histoires de nos participants, leurs perspective et leurs photos ont grandement contribué au succès de ce projet et ont contribué à approfondir notre compréhension de la contribution des personnes âgées immigrantes à la société et aussi des défis auxquels ils font face lorsqu’ils ont besoin de support ou de services au cours de leur vie.
