Establishment of New Research Units

The establishment of a new Research Unit within the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences (FMHS) must adhere to º«¹úÂãÎè’s Policy on Research Entities and follow the Procedures for Research Units, which contain rules for eligibility and instructions for the new Unit’s by-laws.

Applicants are invited to contact the riac.med [at] mcgill.ca (Faculty's Research Office) for initial inquiries. The Research Office will assess and confirm the eligibility [SB1] of a potential Research Unit with the Office of the Vice-Principal Research and Innovation (VPRI) per the Policy on Research Entities.

Once eligibility is confirmed, applicants must submit a New Research Unit Proposal and Appendix to the Faculty Research Office, using templates provided by the Faculty Research Office.

Upon reception by the Faculty’s Research Office, these documents will be reviewed by the Faculty’s Committee for the Oversight of Research Units (CORU), including the new Unit's alignment with the Faculty’s Strategic Research Plan.

If the new Research Unit's activities are positively assessed by CORU, the Unit will be recommended for approval by the Dean of FMHS, before it is officially approved as a º«¹úÂãÎè Research Unit by the VPRI’s Office.

All º«¹úÂãÎè Research Units approved by CORU must submit an annual report for CORU's review.
