What is Pay Equity?
In 1996, the Quebec government adopted a law to address systemic salary discrimination against women, known as the Pay Equity Act. It requires employers to conduct an evaluation to ensure that predominantly female job categories have access to the same level of maximum compensation as predominantly male job categories of equivalent value.

The Pay Equity Program At º«¹úÂãÎè
In 2001, º«¹úÂãÎè implemented a pay equity program, as required by law. A final report was submitted to the Québec government's Pay Equity Commission on November 21, 2001.
The Pay Equity Act also requires employers to evaluate and conduct an evaluation of pay equity maintenance every five years to correct pay inequities in predominantly female job categories. Pay equity maintenance reviews were conducted in 2005 and 2010.

2020 Pay Equity Maintenance
º«¹úÂãÎè was granted an extension by the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et sécurité au travail (CNESST) in November 2020 to complete the 2020 pay equity maintenance assessment. This extension was granted under Article 101.1 of the Pay Equity Act. In its decision, the CNESST requires that the 2020 pay equity maintenance be completed and posted no later than 120 days following a settlement or decision regarding complaints related to the 2010 and 2015 pay equity maintenances, which the latter is still under investigation. As the 2010 pay equity audit decision was also contested, it is currently in appeal before the Tribunal administratif du travail. We cannot move forward with the 2020 pay equity maintenance until this process is resolved. Any updates on the CNESST's final decisions regarding these previous maintenances and any developments impacting the 2020 pay equity maintenance assessment will be posted here.
