Mohit Kumar (DISE) Featured in Building 21 Video
McCall MacBain Scholar (2023), Mohit Kumar, is an M.A.ÌýEducational Leadership student in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE). He is working to devise curricula for Eklavyas (have-nots), for primary school students which aims to catalyze quality education and larger behavioral changes regarding learning, educational awareness, and opportunities. "At Building 21, I aim to research, discover, and invent curriculum/modules, which will simultaneously go under the experiment with students of my ongoing educational project 'Sarathi The Guide' in Firozabad, India" Kumar explained.
The curriculum at the initial stage of research and experiment intervenes in the basic subject matters of "our surroundings," social science, and the English language. In making them, Kumar plans to utilize interdisciplinary knowledge of education, social entrepreneurship, and lived experiences. "I am excited about this opportunity as it provides me with a physical and mental space to curate a toolkit that is going to reflect an out-of-the-box curriculum and implementation." This project extends beyond conventional schooling, learning, and teaching, so that it can be transferable to other contexts and serves to break the notion that students (Eklavyas) of underserved societies are destined for mediocrity in education, opportunities, and life.
