Karim Botros, MD

Karim is a Head and Neck Surgery resident at º«¹úÂãÎè pursuing a MSc in Otolaryngology, as part of the Clinician Investigator Program. His translational research focuses on elucidating the role of HPV infection in remodelling the tumor microenvironment of Oropharyngeal cancer and its impact on treatment response, prognosis, and survival. Karim is co-supervised by Dr. Marco Mascarella and Dr. Sabrina Wurzba.

Josie Cipolla, MD

Josie is a third-year resident in º«¹úÂãÎè’s General Surgery program and is pursuing a MSc in Experimental Surgery with a focus on Surgical Outcomes. Her research interests include improving postoperative outcomes for pediatric patients and their families, inspired by the successful Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways implemented in adult General Surgery. She also aims to improve the marking experience of a child undergoing surgery by including families’ perspectives in the multidisciplinary model of pediatric surgical care. Together with Dr. Sherif Emil, her main project will focus on evaluating clinical outcomes following recent ERAS protocolization of select elective procedures both at her home institution and across the country.

Dylan Grisell, MD

Dylan is a third-year general surgery resident at º«¹úÂãÎè and is pursuing a MSc in Surgical Education through the Clinician Investigator Program. Working alongside Dr. Liane Feldman, his research will focus on the development and validation of robust tools for video-based assessment of laparoscopic surgical skills. He is also interested in the integration of Artificial Intelligence to analyze surgical data and enhance video-based assessment. His ultimate goal is to help advance methods by which surgical trainees learn outside of the operating room with the aim of cultivating highly competent and skilled surgeons who provide excellent surgical care.

Fardad Jabbary, MD

Fardad obtained his MD from º«¹úÂãÎè before joining º«¹úÂãÎè’s Plastics, Reconstructive and Aesthetics Surgery Residency Program and is pursuing a PhD in Experimental Surgery through the Surgeon Scientist Program. His previous training as a Software Engineer was followed by research in Artificial Intelligence and several years of professional experience in the field. Fardad’s research interests include surgical innovation and education, Artificial Intelligence and technological integration into surgical planning, simulation, education, practice and longitudinal evolution. He also enjoys sports, traveling, content creation, the art scene and deep space.

Xheni Konci, MD

Xheni is a vascular surgery resident at º«¹úÂãÎè pursuing a MSc in Experimental Surgery through the Surgeon Scientist Program. Her research focuses on outcome reporting and standardization for patients undergoing open abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair.

Hillary Danit Nepon, MD

Hillary is a third-year resident in the º«¹úÂãÎè Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery program. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Surgical and Interventional Sciences through the Clinician Investigator Program, under the supervision of Dr. Joshua Vorstenbosch. Her basic science research focuses on understanding breast implant capsule at the cellular and molecular level and the underlying pathoetiology of breast implant capsule related disease.

Anna Wang, MD

Anna is a General Surgery resident at º«¹úÂãÎè and is currently pursuing a MSc in Epidemiology as part of the Clinician Investigator Program. Her research interests lie in improving the patient experience and the shared decision-making process in the perioperative setting, with a focus in Colorectal Surgery.
