As part of this year’s Spring Convocation celebrations, º«¹úÂãÎè will confer honorary degrees upon ten inspirational individuals, five of whom are from Quebec.
Leaders in their respective fields, these honorary doctorates stand as examples of creativity, compassion, dedication, service, and a pioneering spirit. They represent a diverse array of leaders whose contributions span disciplines, industries, and continents.

º«¹úÂãÎè News recently published an article featuring Faculty of Education Alumni, Melissa Holland, BEd’98, the co-founder and co-artistic director of the Dr. Clown Foundation.
Her troupe of trained therapeutic clowns bring comfort, compassion, and plenty of laughs to hospitalized children and seniors in care facilities.

Exploratory work will be carried out on the Redpath Library Building (McTavish side) from May 28 to May 31, 2024. The work will be related to upcoming foundation, windows, and roofing projects, and will be carried out in enclosures to control any dust, in accordance with Quebec CNESST regulations and cautionary asbestos conditions. There may be noise disruptions as a result.

Kudos to Chantal who received the Faculty of Science Excellence award, a testament to her exceptional contributions to our graduate students and department at large over the past 38 years. Chantal's work is multifaceted, and the success of our nowadays well over 230 Graduate Student Population hinges in great part on her relentless work in our department.

Michelle Maillet (Academic Associate), Lauren Kay (Clerical), Chantal Marotte (Management), and Moshe Dalva (Technical) have been named recipients of the Faculty of Science Excellence Awards. Â
These awards, announced at the Faculty of Science Council meeting on May 21st, recognize the outstanding contributions made by members of the Faculty’s administrative and support staff during the 2023-2024 academic year. Â

Dr. Victoria Talwar, Canada Research Chair in ECP and the Faculty of Education's Interim Dean, was interviewed on CTV News on the screen times of both adults and children, and the effects it can have on kids.
The research on children's screen time has shown that less is more, however when it comes to a child’s development, parents should spend less time worrying about their kids’ screen time and focus more on reducing their own.

Research

The EarthCARE satellite, a groundbreaking mission set to enhance our understanding of clouds and aerosols in the climate system, is ready for launch. Scheduled to lift off from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket no earlier than May 28, 2024, this mission aims to provide invaluable data on cloud-aerosol interactions. These insights will significantly contribute to our knowledge of climate change and inform future strategies for climate adaptation and mitigation.

The project consists of the upgrade of the vertical power distribution system. Includes mechanical, electrical, and architectural work.
Construction start date:Â June 2024
Planned construction end date:Â October 2025
Work schedule:Â Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with some nights and weekend work to be coordinated with the Building Director.

This project consists of a complete interior renovation of the Gatehouse to transform the wet labs into workstations and offices areas.
Construction start date:Â May 27, 2024*
* Pending on the Ville de Montreal construction permit: not yet received. Preliminary mobilization/site preparation has started.

On May 15, 2024, Thomson House Ballroom hosted the annual Equity and Community Building Awards Ceremony. The awards highlight the work of students, faculty, and staff committed to advancing equity, diversity and community building at º«¹úÂãÎè.
Position Summary:Â Administer and oversee activities related to the IHP Program. Initiate and organize activities aligned with the mandate of the IHP Program, such as community engagement, supporting Indigenous health education, administration, financial management, team building, communications, student affairs, evaluation of initiatives and managing physical resources.
Some Responsibilities Include:Â
