Vaginal prosthetics known as pessaries are a critical tool for the maintenance of pelvic health in women. They are used as a first-line treatment for pelvic organ prolapse, a common condition that occurs when the muscles of the pelvis weaken, causing organs to drop into the vagina. But these devices are badly in need of an upgrade. Their failure rate is high, and the designs have changed little in the last 70 years.

Solar energy has a great deal of potential 鈥 but the areas where it is produced are not always the same places the energy is needed most. That鈥檚 a barrier to widespread adoption, and Canadian-Mexican startup Solfium wants to accelerate solar鈥檚 adoption by making it easier to understand the economics of installing solar panels. The company鈥檚 mobile application is a one-stop shop for a quick estimate of the benefits and costs associated with installing solar energy. Users input information from their electricity bill and are instantly provided with a quote and financing options.

De Baene is the co-founder and CEO of the software company GSoft, which produces software like Softstart, an onboarding solution that鈥檚 meant to smoothen the process.

鈥淢any of the drivers of the inflation we are seeing today are coming from the supply and production side of the economy,鈥 says Associate Professor of Finance聽Sebastien Betermier聽in an interview with CTV News. The war in Ukraine, post-pandemic recovery and supply side frictions are all factors outside our control contributing to inflation. How should investors react to a looming market downturn? Don鈥檛 panic, says Prof. Sebastien Betermier, an Associate Professor of Finance at Desautels. This sounds simple enough, but it鈥檚 easier said than done. When a recession is coming, investors tend to think of all of the things that could go wrong, Betermier told Beyond the Headlines, a podcast produced by the University of Toronto鈥檚 Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. If investors sell in a panic, it can exacerbate the downturn by driving equity prices even lower.

Quebec鈥檚 homicide rate is lower than it was a decade ago, but a slight majority of people that live in cities aren鈥檛 feeling as safe as they used to. This rests in the public鈥檚 perception that there is a lack of organization, according Fady Dagher (EMBA鈥12), Chief of Police in Longueuil, in an interview with TVA鈥檚 Le monde 脿 l鈥檈nvers. But the way that violent crime is occurring contributes to that fear 鈥 there are more guns and drugs on the street, and lockdowns have had a pronounced impact on low-income neighbourhoods.

What if using a ride-hailing app like Uber or Lyft could help decrease a city鈥檚 carbon emissions? Combined with public transit use and municipal policy changes, that鈥檚 beginning to happen. However, the bigger, less understood question is what motivates people to choose their cars over the bus, or Uber over walking to work. New data-driven research from Desautels Professor Animesh Animesh shows the environmental impact of ride-hailing and how comprehensive urban planning policies could make the skies a lot clearer.
