An exploration of the principles underlying the current practice of machine learning (ML) by focusing on fundamental ML algorithms applied to many domains. This course is designed to help students learn to think critically about data and models, understand the conceptual underpinnings of the basic ML algorithms and techniques, how they work, how to choose an algorithm for each kind of learning task, and how to visualize, evaluate, and interpret performance measures and results correctly.
Margaret Mackenzie (BEd’23), Samantha NeptonÌý(BEd’23), and Taylor Richardson (BFA'23 Towson University), are winners of McCall MacBain Scholarships, Canada’s largest leadership-based scholarships for master’s and professional studies.

Two students from the Faculty of Education have earned a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship and Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship:
Rasel Babu, in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, received a º«¹úÂãÎè Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship for their research topic: "Pedagogues' Readiness to Integrate Educational Technology for Teaching Language and Mathematics in Bangladeshi Secondary Classrooms."
Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Gender disparities persist glaringly around the globe with gender-based violence standing out as one of the most widespread human rights violations. Alarmingly, only 52 per cent of women who are married or in a union freely make their own decisions about sexual relations, contraceptive use, and health care. The United Nations has identified transforming harmful gender norms as a critical goal among its 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.

Dr. Hadas Dahary earned her Ph.D. in School/Applied Child Psychology at º«¹úÂãÎè under the supervision of Dr. Eve-Marie Quintin. Her doctoral research was supported by the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Doctoral Scholarship and competitive national autism research training initiatives, including the Quebec Autism Research Training (ART) Program, offered by the Azrieli Centre for Autism Research (ACAR) and the Transforming Autism Care Consortium (TACC) in Montreal.

Dr.ÌýVictoria Talwar, Canada Research Chair in ECP and the Faculty of Education's Interim Dean, was interviewed on CTV News on the screen times of both adults and children, and the effects it can have on kids.
The research on children's screen time has shown that less is more, however when it comes to a child’s development, parents should spend less time worrying about their kids’ screen time and focus more on reducing their own.
On May 15, 2024, Thomson House Ballroom hosted the annual Equity and Community Building Awards Ceremony. The awards highlight the work of students, faculty, and staff committed to advancing equity, diversity and community building at º«¹úÂãÎè.

Dr. Khoury is an Associate Professor in ECP and he heads the , where he and his team conduct research on advancing the theory, research, and applications of mindfulness and compassion.
Dr. Kristy A. Robinson, Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, has received the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) President’s New Researcher Award.
She will accept the award at this year's CPA convention in Ottawa (June 21-23), where she will also deliver an invited talk on her work.
This award recognizes the exceptional quality of her contributions to psychological knowledge in Canada as an early career researcher.
Dr. Armando Bertone, ECP, was recently interviewed by Sid Lee Montreal's Sid Stories, discussing Neurodiversity, Creativity, Education and Research.
Dr. Bertone and his colleague Jesse Heffring, Director of Development of Summit School, talked about the different programs and creative outlets available to neurodivergent learners attending Summit School, a place where research and creativity co-exist.
