Annie Macdonald Langstaff Workshop: Women’s Rights as Human rights: How Are We Doing Today?

Pearl Eliadis, BSc’81, BCL/LLB’85, is a Montreal-based lawyer practicing exclusively in human rights, and specializing in national institutions and democratic governance. A º«¹úÂãÎè and Oxford graduate, she has among her clients the UN, the European Commission, international consortia and NGOs. She has extensive experience working in developing countries and emerging democracies, as well as in Canada.

She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Bar Association’s Human Rights Committee, and the Human Rights Committee of the Quebec Bar Association. She is currently working on a five-year CIDA project on migrant workers and human rights in China.

A past President of Equitas, she is currently President of the Shield of Athena, a Quebec CSO providing multilingual and culturally-mediated services for women and children who are victims of family violence. She serves on the Advisory Boards of Canadian Lawyers Abroad, the African Women’s Equality Rights Partnership, and the º«¹úÂãÎè Law’s Echenberg Conference Series on Human Rights.

Pearl Eliadis is the recipient of Canada’s 125 Commemorative Medal, the 2006 Women of Distinction Award, and the 2008 Woman of Achievement Award.

This talk is presented by the Annie Macdonald Langstaff Series, the º«¹úÂãÎè Institute for Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies, and º«¹úÂãÎè Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism.
