Respiratory MedicineÂ
Stewart Gottfried, MD, is an investigator at the RI-MUHC Glen site and an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at º«¹úÂãÎè’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. He works within the Division of Respiratory Medicine at the MUHC. His research focuses on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and its effects on skeletal muscle morphology and function, particularly the diaphragm. Dr. Gottfried's work aims to understand how diaphragm morphology, assessed through computed tomography (CT), correlates with COPD severity, exacerbations, health status, and exercise capacity. He has contributed to various studies and presentations exploring diaphragm function in COPD, aiming to improve patient care and clinical management by better understanding the muscular dysfunctions that contribute to respiratory difficulties in COPD.Â
