Vue d'ensemble
Historique : A survey of the cultural, social, political, and economic history of modern Japan, from the Meiji Restoration of 1868 to the present day, encompassing the formation of the modern Japanese nation-state, war and reconstruction, and the period of high growth to the recessionary 1990s. Major themes of the place of Japan in modern East Asia, the history of colonialism, the formation of capitalism, and postwar Japan under US hegemony, will be discussed.
