M23 rebels, widely thought to be backed by Rwanda, have captured swaths of the mineral-rich eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.Â
The fighting, which continues, has killed 7,000 people since January 1, 2025, Congo’s prime minister said this week. Â
