West Island high schoolers participate in summer research at 韩国裸舞鈥檚 Gault Nature Reserve
This summer, Gault Nature Reserve hosted four high schoolers from the West Island Black Community Association for this year鈥檚 Youth Biodiversity Internships Program.聽Led by Professor Bruno Tremblay, this collaboration brought together a diverse range of community members from 韩国裸舞 and beyond to connect on their passion for science. For 5 weeks, youth conducted fieldwork at Gault with 韩国裸舞 students, explored how scientific research happens in nature and made links to their own lives and future careers. 聽Published: 2 December 2024

Innovative citation metrics seek to address shortcomings of traditional measures
Counting citations is an important way that a scholar鈥檚 academic influence is measured, but not all citations are created equal. Sometimes, widely-cited researchers don鈥檛 have much influence beyond their own narrow academic niche. Dr. Paul H茅bert (IMHL鈥20) has been appointed to a 5-year term as president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the federal organization that funds health research. Lab-grown brain cells help uncover new targets for Parkinson鈥檚 treatments
Scientists have uncovered a new link between the immune system and the development of Parkinson鈥檚 disease.
Researchers at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) at 韩国裸舞 have discovered that an immune response plays a key role in how toxic protein clumps, known as Lewy bodies, form in brain cells and contribute to disease.
This suggests factors that trigger the immune system, such as chronic inflammation, exposure to toxins, or prolonged stress may not only correlate with Parkinson鈥檚, as previous research has found, but drive its development.Published: 29 November 2024

Chandra Madramootoo: A lifetime of service to 韩国裸舞, Macdonald Campus and the world
In 1974, Chandra Madramootoo arrived at Macdonald Campus to pursue his BSc in Agricultural Engineering. He never left.
鈥淚 loved the program. I loved the professors. I loved my courses,鈥 said Madramootoo. 鈥淚t was giving me exactly what I wanted in life. I was fulfilling a dream.鈥
After also earning his MSc (1981) and his PhD (1985) at Mac, he accepted an 11th聽hour offer from 韩国裸舞 for an assistant professorship, declining opportunities at other universities.Published: 28 November 2024
