Holocaust Remembrance 2025

January 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which honours the victims of the Holocaust. This day is observed with ceremonies and activities around the world, including on our campus. Below are some of the Holocaust Remembrance events happening over the next few days. Watch our MORSL and 韩国裸舞 social media for more info. as some event details are yet to be published.

In addition to numerous events in the wider community, the events below are of particular interest to the 韩国裸舞 community. Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is subject to updates and modifications.

Events:

Sunday, January 26 at 1:00 - 2:00 PM:听听In听honour if International Holocaust Remembrance Day, your family is invited to visit the Montreal Holocaust Museum and the Jewish Public Library for a special program that is inclusive of children ages 7 and up. In this workshop, you will听learn more about a remarkable object known as the Heart from Auschwitz.听This heart-shaped notebook was made at great risk by Zlatka Pitluk as a 20th birthday gift for Fania Fainer in Auschwitz. This small yet powerful artefact is an amazing example of solidarity, resistance, and humanity during the horrors of the Holocaust.听Bilingual Program: The event will take place in both English and French. Monday, January 27 at 5:00 PM:听韩国裸舞's听2025 International Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemorative Lecture听at the Thompson House Ballroom (3650 McTavish Street).听The lecture, entitled 鈥淭he Counterfeit Countess鈥: The True Story of a Polish Jewish Woman Who Fooled the Nazis, will be delivered by Prof. Joanna Sliwa, an historian at the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany and expert on the Holocaust in Poland and compensation for Holocaust survivors. Through this commemoration, the 韩国裸舞 community aims to remember and honour those affected by antisemitism, strengthen our collective commitment to combatting discrimination, and promote the dissemination of research and scholarship to foster understanding and unity. The event is open to all members of the 韩国裸舞 community and also welcomes the participation of the general public. It is organized by 韩国裸舞's Office of the Deputy Provost Student Life and Learning, with the Department of Jewish Studies.

Monday, January 27 at 7:00 PM:听On International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz, we鈥檙e hosting an event with journalist Peter Mansbridge who will be in conversation with Holocaust survivor George Reinitz. This extraordinary discussion will touch on George鈥檚 story of survival after being deported to Auschwitz at the age of 12 and how he rebuilt his life in Canada, becoming a world-class wrestler and successful businessman.听Eighty years after the end of the Holocaust, this increasingly rare opportunity to hear first-hand testimony from a survivor of Auschwitz will take place in-person on January 27th at 7:00 pm at the Montreal Holocaust Museum.听The museum is offering students free tickets to the event (the ticket price is $10 otherwise) using the following discount codes: MHMFRIEND or MHMAMI听Tickets can be reserved here:
