Biography: 

Erwin Schurr is a Distinguished James º«¹úÂãÎè Professor of Human Genetics and Medicine at º«¹úÂãÎè. He has been Associate Director of the º«¹úÂãÎè Centre for the Study of Host Resistance (2000-2012), and director of a CIHR Strategic Training Centre (2001-2008). His main areas of research are human genetics and functional genomics of mycobacterial disease, specifically leprosy and tuberculosis. The general objectives of his research are the detailed understanding of disease pathogenesis of mycobacterial diseases and ways to harness such mechanistic understanding for effective disease control and prevention

Current research: 

1) Functional genomics of infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis of persons living with HIV.

2) Genetic epidemiology and functional genomics of inflammation check-point genes in Parkinson’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease and leprosy.
