We are pleased to announce the reappointment of Marion Dove, MD, as Chair, Department of Family Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), º«¹úÂãÎè. Dr. Dove’s second term officially began November 1, 2024.
Dr. Dove’s accomplishments in her first term as Chair are many and include the opening of the Indigenous space in the Department of Family Medicine—the first of its kind at º«¹úÂãÎè—which is dedicated to activities around Indigenous health and community outreach within the health sector. In addition, under her leadership five Indigenous professors joined the Department.
In 2023 and 2024, Dr. Dove led the Department’s participation in the opening of two University Family Medicine Groups: Clinique MedNam Lachine and GMF Vaudreuil-Soulanges. Another new GMF-U at the Lakeshore General Hospital will welcome its first residents in 2025.
Dr. Dove led an important strategic planning exercise for the Department in 2022-23. She was also responsible for the launch of, and serves as chair of the Valorization of Family Medicine committee in the FMHS. She also served as an elected member of the Search and Selection Committee for the Vice-President (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2022-2023.
Dr. Dove’s goals for the Department of Family Medicine in the coming years include the continued expansion of family medicine training sites to support the increased number of medical students and residents in family medicine. She plans to promote and expand the Department’s research activities, and in particular develop more clinician-scientists in family medicine. The department will also run pilot projects to extend training in family medicine residency, with a long-term vision of moving towards a three-year training program.
Dr. Dove is Associate Professor in the FMHS. She received a BA in Physics from Harvard University, then went on to earn a medical degree from McMaster University. She completed her Family Medicine residency at º«¹úÂãÎè, and joined the Department of Family Medicine as Faculty Lecturer shortly thereafter. Prior to being nominated Chair, Dr. Dove held previous roles in the Department of Family Medicine including Associate Chair of the Department, Director of Postgraduate Education (Residency program), and Director of Faculty Development. She was named to the FMHS Faculty Honour List for Educational Excellence in 2022, and was recently named as Chair of the Association of Canadian Chairs of Family Medicine. Previously, she represented the Association on the Undergraduate Education Committee of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Dove on her reappointment as Chair of Family Medicine and wishing her continued success.
