The Financial Times ’global rankings reflect program performance in categories like salaries, student satisfaction, and job placement.

Technology used in Retail Innovation Lab to be deployed at scale

º«¹úÂãÎè’s Retail Innovation Lab is a testing ground for new technologies, and an automated check-out system that it is currently using will be deployed in 7000 Couche-Tard and Circle K locations. The computer vision technology uses eight cameras to automatically detect multiple items simultaneously at check-out, and Couche-Tard’s Vishnu Subramaniam gave TVA Nouvelles a demo of the cutting-edge tech in action – no scanning required.

Dobson Cup prize winners prepare to pilot colour-changing artificial nails

Alejandra Huerta and Isabela Dominguez envision a future where the shade of your nails can change with a tap of your phone. During Huerta’s PhD in chemistry, she considered how organic materials could be used to change the colour of cosmetics. But by brainstorming with her sister Dominguez, a computer engineer, they determined that wearable electronics could be a better approach.

Dobson Cup finalist attracts investment from leading venture capital fund

Many service-oriented businesses suffered during the pandemic, but it was a boon for Paper, an online tutoring company. Led by Philip Cutler (BEd’13) and Roberto Cipriani (BSc’08), the company was a finalist in the 2014 Dobson Cup, an annual start-up competition that fosters entrepreneurship and gives cash awards to the best budding businesses. Today, Paper counts more than 450 staff, and over 2,200 tutors.

Louis Morissette’s career combines business training with comedic instincts

When Louis Morissette (BCom’95) was studying at Desautels, he was also performing in comedy shows. And when he went to the École Nationale de l’humour, he found himself wondering what the business plan for comedy could be.

In the years since then, he’s figured it out. Morissette is the co-founder and President of the production company KOTV and has been an actor and producer for television and film.

Ann-Sophie Bettez inducted into º«¹úÂãÎè Sports Hall of Fame

The º«¹úÂãÎè Sports Hall of Fame is honouring Desautels graduate Ann-Sophie Bettez (BCom '11) as part of its Class of 2022. Bettez’s induction follows a decorated university hockey career in which she was named the CIS rookie of the year as a first-year student, and Canadian university hockey player of the year as a senior. That same year, Bettez was also º«¹úÂãÎè's top female athlete and won the BLG Award as Canada’s top female student-athlete.

HITLAB is using artificial intelligence to identify the hit songs of the future

After more than forty years with the IOC, Dick Pound is retiring

While he was still a law student, Dick Pound (BCom’62, BCL’67) competed in the 1960 Olympics in Rome. But that was only the beginning of the Desautels alumnus’ decades-long involvement in the Olympic movement. Pound was elected to the International Olympic Committee in 1978, and is now its longest-serving member.

Women in Communications and Technology celebrated its 30th anniversary with a gala event that recognized the contributions of leaders who have championed women in Canada’s innovation industries. Among those honoured at the event was Liette Vigneault (EMBA’18), who received the WCT Leader award, which recognizes exceptional contributions to the organization.

Serge Postigo stars in the Paris adaptation of Mel Brooks’ award-winning musical The Producers

When The Producers launched on Broadway in 2001, it took home the Tony Award for Best Musical.
