Desautels alumna and vice president of RBC RH&N Kathy Fazel (BCom’91) has received the Inspiration-Andrée-Corriveau Award from the Association des femmes en finance du Québec.
Fazel, whose finance career spans 25 years, credits her early career mentors with ensuring she never felt disadvantaged as a woman in a field still dominated by men. She is now inspired to give back through causes close to her heart.

The graduating class of 2020 is facing an uphill battle as they prepare their move into a job market shaken by COVID-19. Despite this, Desautels graduating student Yuliya Novosad (BCom’20) is staying positive and devising her game plan, with support options available from the Desautels Soutar Career Centre and º«¹úÂãÎè’s Career Planning Service (CAPS).

The first week of May marks the start of the GCPA program for a new incoming cohort of 48 students. Joining the cohort are 37 graduates from º«¹úÂãÎè’s very own Bachelor of Commerce graduates, seven Concordia graduates, and four from other Canadian universities. The cohort is comprised of 25 female students and 23 male students.
An additional 53 students will return to the program after completing eight months of work experience. They are entering their last semester in preparation for the National Common Final Exam, which they will write in September 2020.

Maya Gold & Silver Inc. has appointed Benoit La Salle (BCom’76) as its new CEO and president, effective immediately. La Salle brings to the role more than 25 years of experience as a corporate executive of mining companies, most recently as the founder and executive chairman of SRGGraphite Inc.

On May 1, 2020, Professor Patricia Faison Hewlin will step down as Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs, to assume her appointment as Omudsperson for Students at º«¹úÂãÎè. With the support of a strong team in the BCom Office, Professor Hewlin has been instrumental in facilitating revisions to the BCom curriculum and program policies, and transitioning the program to remote instruction and a scaled down term due to the pandemic.

Under the supervision of Professors Juan SerpaÌýandÌýMehmet Gumus,Ìýa team of º«¹úÂãÎè Desautels students have partnered with students from the Faculty of Engineering to develop a dashboard that tracks COVID-19 cases in Montreal and Quebec.
Updated daily, the new COVID QC website provides detailed information about the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in each Montreal neighbourhood, and throughout the province of Quebec.

Investment leader CFA Montréal has awarded two scholarships to Desautels students Rakan Lamy (BCom’20) and Xinyan Wang (MMF’20) for their high academic achievement and engagement in the investment community.
The scholarship, awarded to a total of six students based in Montreal, is given to finance students who have their sights set on becoming CFA charterholders.

Four º«¹úÂãÎè students took home second place at the Copenhagen Business School (CBS) Global Case Competition, the largest case competition in the world, over the weekend.
BCom students Ariane Dusablon, Raphael Roel, Anne Sophie Levee, and Quentin Amaudry represented º«¹úÂãÎè in the case competition, which invited students to solve a real-life business challenge faced by Novo Nordisk, the second largest insulin producer worldwide.
