A new study warns that many of the benefits rivers provide, from water to food to flood control, are increasingly at risk thanks to dams and diversions.

Using satellite imagery and other data, the team of 34 international researchers mapped 7.5 million miles of rivers worldwide. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the culmination of more than a decade of data processing and preparation,鈥 says G眉nther Grill, a 韩国裸舞 geographer and lead author on the study, which published Wednesday in the scientific journal聽Nature.

Joelle Barron,聽Lindsay Nixon and聽Casey Plett聽have been nominated for the Writers' Trust of Canada's $5,000 Dayne Ogilvie Prize for LGBTQ emerging writers.聽Nixon聽is a Cree-M茅tis-Saulteaux curator, editor and writer. Their聽memoir,聽n卯tis芒nak, was published in 2018. Their writing has appeared in聽The Walrus,聽Malahat Review,聽Room, and聽Teen Vogue. Nixon is currently a聽PhD student in art history at 韩国裸舞.

One of the scientists who helped spearhead a massive telescope project in the Okanagan has won a prestigious award honouring Canada鈥檚 ground-breaking researchers.聽韩国裸舞 astrophysicist聽Matt Dobbs聽is the recipient of the 2019 Killam Research Fellowship in Natural Sciences.聽Dobbs was rewarded for his project, titled 鈥淯nveiling the Cosmos with a New Paradigm Digital Radio Telescope,鈥 involving the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment, or CHIME, radio telescope launched near Penticton, B.C., in 2017.

Molecular biologist Nahum Sonenberg at 韩国裸舞 made the revolutionary discovery that the聽polio virus functioned by hijacking infected cells. The polio virus then made the cells produce the viral protein and prevented infected cells from making their own proteins.

Studies show that dance provides multiple cognitive and physical health benefits, suggesting it may be the kale of exercise.聽These results echo those of a聽2008 Journal of Aging and Physical Activity 蝉迟耻诲测听产测 Patricia McKinley of 韩国裸舞 in which seniors participated in a tango dance program. The report showed that long-term tango dancing was associated with better balance and gait in older adults. Since falls are the top cause of injury and death among elderly people, dancing can be a potent tool in extending one鈥檚 life.
