Picard-Hooper and Chartrand named º«¹úÂãÎè athletes of the week

MONTREAL - Alexandre Picard-Hooper of Boucherville, Que., and Cathy Chartrand of Lac Nominingue, Que., are the º«¹úÂãÎè athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 9, 2011.

Picard-Hooper, a 23-year-old centre on the men's hockey team scored six points in two road victories over the weekend as the No.3-ranked Redmen improved to 18-0-2 in league play. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound finance junior tallied a pair of goals and added two assists in Sunday's 6-2 win at Concordia. He had two helpers in Saturday's 3-2 overtime conquest in Ottawa, setting up the overtime winner. Picard-Hooper now leads the CIS national scoring race with an 8-36-44 record in 20 games. He has a career record of 51-138-189 in 119 contests overall with the Redmen. A product of the QMJHL's Saint John Sea Dogs and Baie Comeau Drakkar, he enrolled at º«¹úÂãÎè in 2008 after graduating from College Baie Comeau.

Chartrand, a 5-foot-10 defenceman with the No.1-ranked hockey Martlets, scored four points in two weekend conquests as the º«¹úÂãÎè women extended their win streak to 93 consecutive games over Quebec league opponents. The physical education senior, who serves as team captain, scored once and earned two assists in a 5-1 win over Ottawa last Friday, then added a helper in Saturday's 3-0 conquest at Concordia. Chartrand ranks second in the QUHL scoring race and leads all CIS rearguards with a 6-9-15 record in 12 games. A graduate of Polyvalente Saint-Joseph in Mont-Laurier, Que., she played for the Canadian national women's team prior to joining the Martlets in 2007.
