India becoming Bombardier's next frontier for lucrative train and plane orders
India is shaping up to become the next lucrative frontier for Bombardier as the global train and plane manufacturer seeks to win billions of dollars of new contracts for its products. Karl Moore, a business professor at º«¹úÂãÎè's Desautels Faculty of Management, said the potential in India derives from the expanding middle class.
They want to travel, increasing demand for new airports and planes. But railways are in greatest demand to address traffic congestion that's worsened by the introduction of cheap, small cars like the Tata.
Moore said China remains a slightly better opportunity because of the communist government system that allows for quicker decisions.
"In a democracy, it's just messier to get things done, including infrastructure," said Moore, who will lead a delegation of students to Bangalore and Mumbai in February.
"I think it will be a longer process than in China because of the nature of the governments but I think there's a tremendous opportunity there."
