Football Redmen to open 130th season against U of T, in a rivalry that dates back to 1881

MONTREAL -- The º«¹úÂãÎè Redmen will be opening their 130th season of football when they travel to the Queen City this fall for a preseason affair against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Aug. 28, 2010. Kickoff is set for 1 pm at Varsity Stadium. It will be the first meeting between the long-time rivals since 1992 and will be a match-up featuring the two oldest operating football clubs in North America.

º«¹úÂãÎè, which first played football in 1872 (and did not play for nine seasons during the war years), will take on the Varsity Blues, which were founded in 1877 and will be opening their 125th campaign.

The August showdown will be the 152nd lifetime meeting between the two archrivals who first met in 1881. Toronto holds a 95-50-6 lifetime record versus the Redmen, who will be looking for their first win over U of T since 1969.

The Varsity Blues have captured 25 league championships and two Vanier Cup national titles, while the Redmen own 14 conference banners and one national championship.
