Daniel Gagnier and Claude Généreux join ’s Board of Governors
Stuart H. (Kip) Cobbett, Chair of ’s Board of
Governors, is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Gagnier
and Claude Généreux as members of the Board, effective January 1,
2010.
“ is fortunate to welcome to its Board two
distinguished graduates,” Mr. Cobbett said. “The expertise
brought by Messrs. Gagnier and Généreux, both on public issues
important to an institution like as well as in strategic
management, will be of great value in helping shape the
University’s priorities.”
Daniel J. Gagnier served as Chief of Staff to Quebec Premier Jean
Charest from 2007 to 2009. Formerly a Vice-President and Senior
Vice-President at Alcan from 1995 to 2007, his responsibilities
included communications, government relations, environment, health
and safety. Mr. Gagnier has also held a number of positions with
the governments of Canada, Ontario and Saskatchewan, notably as
Chief of Staff to the premier of Ontario as well as in several
diplomatic postings abroad. Mr. Gagnier joined the firm HKDP
Communications and Public Affairs on January 11.
Mr. Gagnier has also served as President of the Canadian Brewers
Association, chaired committees of the International Standards
Organizations, the Board of Directors of the Canadian Manufacturers
and Exporters, the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada and the Board
of Sustainable Development Technology Canada. He currently chairs
the Board of the International Institute for Sustainable
Development. He holds a Master’s degree in Chinese history from
and was an Australian National Fellow in Chinese
Studies at the Australian National University.
Claude Généreux is currently a Senior Associate Director at
McKinsey & Company, an international business consulting group
he joined over 20 years ago. Now a leading expert in the fields of
energy, technology as well as government, he advises a variety of
companies in North America, Europe, Russia and the Middle East.
After working in McKinsey’s Stockholm, Paris and Toronto offices,
he returned to Quebec in 1991 to help launch the company’s Montreal
office. He was location manager in Montreal from 2000 to 2003. From
2003 to 2008, he led McKinsey’s global Electric Power and Natural
Gas Practice, from Paris.
Mr. Généreux has been a strong supporter of non-profit,
philanthropic and educational organizations, including his alma
mater and other universities. A Rhodes Scholar, he holds a Bachelor
of Engineering from and a Master’s in Political
Science and Economics from Oxford University.
The Board of Governors is the University’s highest governing body.
It is composed of 25 voting members, including members at large,
student, staff and faculty representatives, and two observers. It
generally meets six times per year.
