After an extensive playing career, Mike Babcock moved to º«¹úÂãÎè in Montreal in 1983, where he captained the Redmen and was a two-time all-star on defence while also earning a degree in physical education and doing post-graduate work in sports psychology. It was at º«¹úÂãÎè that the seeds of his career were planted, as along with doing some teaching, he coached the professors' recreational team and helped out with the boys' squad at a private high school for extra money.Two of his Redmen teammates also reached the NHL as coaches - George Burnett, who was briefly head coach of the Edmonton Oilers in 1994-95 and now coaches the junior Belleville Bulls, and Jamie Kompon, an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings.
