Aussie flood relief fund to benefit from Concordia-º«¹úÂãÎè match-up

MONTREAL - The varsity hockey game between the Concordia Stingers and the No.2-ranked º«¹úÂãÎè Redmen at McConnell Arena on Wednesday (Jan. 26, 7 p.m.) will feature a "Hockey Night in Canada for Aussie Pride" fundraiser for the flood relief efforts in Australia.

Proceeds from every ticket purchased by all spectators wearing Australian colours will be donated by º«¹úÂãÎè Athletics & Recreation to the Queensland government "Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal." Australia’s official national colours are green and gold, while the colours of their flag is red, white and blue. Fans dressed in either colour combination will be considered sufficiently dressed for tonight's fundraiser.

The event, which will also be webcast live at , was proposed by Kirsten Maier, an Australian living in Montreal and has been supported by more than 100 students from the º«¹úÂãÎè International Student Network, who have purchased advance tickets to the game.

Admission is only $7 for adults, $4 for students and seniors. All children 12 and under are admitted free.

º«¹úÂãÎè leads the OUA East with a stellar 21-0-2 record, while Concordia sits fifth in the 10-team division with a 12-10-1 record. The Redmen defeated Concordia 6-2 in their only meeting of the season, at the Ed Meagher Arena on Jan. 9. The cross-town rivals have a 67-67-13 lifetime record in regular-season clashes against each other and are scheduled to meet for a final time on Feb. 13 in the annual Corey Cup game.
