Law as a Bridge graduate student conference
º«¹úÂãÎè Graduate Law Students Association Conference 2010: Law as a Bridge
Ìý
This is a privileged forum to explore the uncertainties of our own position as legal scholars and beginning researchers. Participants will consider and explore the law as a bridge, as a force that connects and coheres, as well as fragments and disperses.
Questions considered will include, but will not be limited to: How are laws effectively drafted and crafted in order to achieve desired policy outcomes? In what ways does law apply to different individuals and groups within plural nation-states and what is the scope of such application? How do we discover the legitimacy of certain laws and their relationship to foundational democratic principles? How should we organize institutions to take into account the concerns of different stakeholders? In what ways should law interact with science, innovations, and technology?

Presenters will include current graduate students or those who have recently completed graduates studies.
Papers will be in either French or English.
The Canadian Law and Society Association (CLSA) invites you to take part in an afternoon of workshops in conjunction with our annual conference. Unlike traditional paper sessions at conferences, the GSW emphasize instruction, participation, and discussion. The workshops are designed to add a pedagogical dimension to the CLSA's activities. They are intended to increase student membership and engagement with the CLSA, and foster collegiality and professional interaction among junior law and society scholars. They also offer a unique and rewarding opportunity for more seasoned academics to interact with students in a non-intimidating environment.
This year, the CLSA student workshops will take place during the afternoon of June 1, 2010 (the day before the CLSA conference sessions begin) at º«¹úÂãÎè's Faculty of Law. To register to the conference, please contact us at glsconference2010 [at] gmail.com.
