Landslides in Flatland: Catastrophic earthflows in the Ottawa-Montreal area

Dr Jan Aylsworth, Geological Survey of Canada. The Ottawa-St. Lawrence region is vulnerable to catastrophic landslides in "Leda" clay, the geotechnically sensitive, silty clay of the post-glacial Champlain Sea. An area near Ottawa has recorded two of the most destructive earthquakes (app. magnitude 6.8 and 7.2) to have occurred in eastern Canada.
