A Civil Law workshop by Professor , Distinguished Professor at Rutgers Law School.

Among many other publications, Professor Hyland is the author of Gifts: A Study in Comparative Law (Oxford: OUP, 2009), a book that has attracted a great deal of scholarly attention. In the final chapter of his book, Professor Hyland raises the workshop's question, "Is the Gift a Contract?".

Part of the Civil Law Workshop series, whose theme this year is "Law’s intraduisibles", which are those elements or aspects that lie beyond translation.

The Civil Law Workshops are presented with financial assistance from the Support Fund for Access to Justice in Both Official Languages at Justice Canada.
