Biography:
Dr. Joann Whalen’s research focuses on soil ecology and the biological, chemical, and physical processes that regulate nutrient cycles in agroecosystems. Her work examines how agricultural management practices influence soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics, with the goal of improving nutrient use efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and minimizing nutrient leaching. Current projects explore soil biota’s role in carbon and nitrogen cycling, biological promoters of crop growth, and best management practices for fertilizer and manure use.
